Install and first start

Get AyCode onto your Mac or PC, take the short tour, and bring over what you used before.

2 min readAyCode 7.1.4

macOS

  1. Download AyCode-<version>-arm64.dmg from the download page. It needs a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 12 or later.
  2. Open the file and drag AyCode into Applications.
  3. The current builds are not notarized by Apple yet. If macOS blocks the first start, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.

Windows

Download AyCode-Setup-<version>-win-x64.exe (Windows 10 or 11, 64 bit) and run it. A portable ZIP is there too. If SmartScreen warns you, choose More info → Run anyway.

Windows is still a beta. A few things only exist on the Mac, for example the Island at the notch, AppShot and recording meetings in AyNotes.

The first start

On the first start AyCode greets you with a short setup. Every step can be skipped with Einführung überspringen (skip intro) and repeated later via ⌘K Einrichtung wiederholen.

Welcome, tour, Second Brain, permissions, agent apps, done.
  • Kurzer Rundgang (short tour): five stops that show what AyCode does.
  • Second Brain: pick your notes folder. Obsidian vaults AyCode already knows are offered with one click. You can also continue without one.
  • Freigaben (permissions): microphone, system audio and notifications, each on its own (macOS and Windows).
  • Agenten-CLIs: with your consent AyCode looks for Claude Code, Codex and the other agent apps, signs you in where needed and checks that they answer.

AyCode never stores its own passwords for your providers. It uses the agent apps the way they are installed and signed in on your computer.

Moving in from other tools

Under Settings → Move in a five-step assistant finds what other agent apps left on your computer: Claude Code, Codex, Claudian, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Kimi Code, Hermes, Cline, Pi, Grok CLI, Mistral Vibe, Cursor, GitHub Copilot CLI, Qwen Code and T3 Code.

Move in: consent, search, providers, take over, document.
  • The search only reads file names and dates. Nothing is opened before you agree.
  • It sets up the providers and takes over MCP servers and skills.
  • Chats from Claudian, T3 Code and from Claude Code or Codex in the terminal come over as whole sessions, so you can simply continue them.
  • At the end an agent can write down the most important things as notes in AyCode/Umzug/ in your vault, only after a second, separate yes. Keys and other people’s data are never taken over.

Updates

AyCode updates itself. It checks shortly after the start and then every six hours, loads the update in the background and installs it on the next restart. Every update is checked against a signature before it is used. Under Settings → Updates you can switch between Stable and Nightly.
